I am sorry that it took so long to put up this blog! I was in charge of the stagging area for the tournament. We had been to aggressive in calling the cougar division into the stagging area and as a result these children spent more than 1-1/2 hours sitting and waiting. I really do appologize for that. I assure you that I will do everything in my power to insure that it never happens again. On that same note, I would like to cogratulate all of those participants who showed an amazing display of the "tenents of Kyuki-do". A group of 8-9 year olds who sat patiently, for that amount of time was absolutely amazing!!! Also for the parents who were so understanding and helpful through that very long stagging process. I was blessed to have such a wonderful group. This type of conduct is one of the things that I stress as a benifit of belonging to the "A.K.F." If you know any of the students that were part of this group, please pass along my apologies and my graditude for their amazing strenth of character. Thanks again and I sure hope to see you all at the next tournament.

Even starting in the morning and ending in the early evening, the day seemed to fly by. As a Judge and Refferee, I must complement EVERYONE, young of age and the young at hearts on their sportsmanship, attitude, and effort. To the parents of the competitors, I THANK YOU for your continued support as your family continues their journey to becoming Balck Belt Leaders. I know our Academy is excited for the Spring Tournament already! CONGRATULATIONS to everyone!

I am really looking forward to the tournament for Oct 10 and 11. We have 18 students attending from Amery and New Richmond, Wisconsin. This is 5 1/2 hours away from Janesville. I am very proud and appreciative of the dedication our studnets in Kyuki-do show in their commitment toward Black Belt. It is very inspiring to me to see the high level of dedication from all of the Kyuki-Do academies. See you in October!

Mr. Lackhouse and Mr. Jacobson, Thank you for your kind words and comments regarding the Spring AKF Tournament. We truly appreciate your feedback. The AKF Tournament Committee will discuss the "wrestle-back" option that Mr. Jacobson referred to in his comment for the point sparring competition and possibly some other options to address your thoughts and concerns. Again, thank you for your participation at the tournament and your continued support of the American Kyuki-Do Federation, Inc.

Kudos all around for last weekend's spring AKF tournament! From the organizers to everyone that helped out, this being our 7th tournament, this easily was the most organized.
My two boys and I had a lot of fun competing, seeing familiar faces and meeting new friends.
I think there is always room for improvement, I do believe that Grand Master Kim states in the book something along the lines of "the martial artist always pursues perfection while realizing that perfection can never be attained". Mr. Lackhouse's suggestion sounds a lot to me like what commonly happens in state wrestling meets, I believe it's referred to as the "wrestle-back". (i.e. If you lose in round 1 and the victor wins their next match, you get the chance to wrestle back for at least 2nd place) On the surface I like the idea, I do think though that it would extend the length of the tournament.
I personally would have liked that as I lost a close round 1 match the eventual 1st place champ in my division ;-) I chalked it up to "oh well" that's the way the ball bounces sometimes.
I know I speak for a lot of the competitors and parents of competitors from the Delavan, WI AKF...that we all thought that this was a great tournament.
Thanks again and we'll see (hopefully) most of you again in the fall.

The Spring AKF Tournament was very organized and run well. I would like to recommend one change in the sparring event. My child mainly goes for the sparring event and lost the first round whose opponent took first place. She never had another opportunity to spar again to place. My recommendation is that if the first elimnations opponent takes first, the other child should at least be able to contend for the 4th place position. This would only add a single fight under the circumstance that the opponent places 1st place. Therefore, should not add much more time to the overall tournament. Participants spend a lot of money to be involved in these events and feel there are areas for improvement that need to be seriously considered. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to express my thoughts and concerns.

CALLING ALL BLACK BELTS!! We are looking for black belts to assist with judging at the tournament. Also, we are looking for Black Stripes & Red Belts to be Judges assistants. Judging will not interfere with your ability to compete. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Thank you from the AKF and all competitors for your continued support without which an event like this would not be possible. Please email me at kyukido@mac.com if you are available to help. Thank you!

You can also download the full tournament flyer by clicking on "more info". Hope this helps. If you have any questions, you're probably not the only one, so post it to the blog. Thanks, and we'll see you at the tournament!
